On our recent trip up California's highway 395, we paused for more than 24 hours in the Whitney Portal area, where hikers enter the Eastern Sierra wilderness, and some attempt to summit Mt. Whitney, the highest peak in the lower 48. The kids and I did a day hike up a small portion of the Mt. Whitney trail, but my favorite part was sitting next to this series of cascades (which ate my camera's lens cap), listening to the water rush by. Enjoy!
